on family and katrina

just learned that my cousin linda's family got slammed in katrina, apparently they got out of the city in their car but had to stop at a hotel in mobile when the storm actually hit. Turns out the hotel was very badly damaged and their car was lost in flooding while they were at the hotel. They ended up hitching a ride to Pensacola where they rented a car and drove all the way to Hotlanta - currently their base of operations. Kinda crazy to think about given what I know of the family, apparently because Linda's particular medical skill isn't in demand she's effectively laid off for at least the next 5 months, maybe longer. sucky.
