tokyo rose dies

so iva toguri d'aquino died at 90 in chicago. her story is one of many sad, sad stories of our nation's war efforts miscast as justified racism. reading her story it is hard to imagine what life must have been like for her both during the war and afterward. the worst kind of homeless, I think, is to be away from home and denied the right to return by your neighbors at the same time you're denied the right to stay by your hosts. i had no idea that ford pardoned her and restored her citizenship.
