so, milt freidman died yesterday here in SF. like him or hate him, he's been singularly the most influential economist in the past 50 years. I suppose if you can forgive him for things like recking south america you have to give him credit for being generally very smart and having a cynical but entirely accurate view of the role of government.

It's entirely impossible for me to escape his influence - he did found that chicago school - and even in it's most liberal forms whilst I was there, it was still his baby.

I never met the man, but somehow i feel like I knew him though I think he was only on campus once while I was there.
